Executive Fuctioning
Executive function is defined as a group of cognitive abilities that control the skills required for goal-directed behavior. These skills are used across all areas of life (home, school, and in the community), and are an important part of human development. However, there are times that a learner may require additional assistance to enhance these skills. Executive functioning skills can increase the probability of success in numerous areas of life (e.g., student, employee, friend, citizen).
Behavior Modification
Some behaviors that we engage in may not be desirable or socially appropriate such as physical aggression, tantrums, or refusing to respond to tasks or instructions. Through our assessment processes, we determine the function of the behavior and develop appropriate interventions to decrease challenging, undesirable behavior while simultaneously teach alternative, socially appropriate behavior. The ultimate goal of behavior modification is for the learner to engage in socially significant appropriate behaviors that result in natural sources of reinforcement.
Caregiver Support and Training
Beginning at the initial session, caregivers will work closely with the therapy team to increase the probability of successful therapy outcomes. ABA services include, but is not limited to:
-
Caregiver training (minimum of once per month) with ongoing communication with supervisors and therapists
-
Program and goal development with our team
-
Up to date lesson plans and instruction on how to assist in establishing and maintaining skills
-
Proactive and reactive strategies to manage behaviors
